Answer: King Darzin wanted to spite El-ahrairah. So, he put Rabscuttle to work every day when his guards caught him outside the city. However, El-ahrairah helped in the escape of Rabscuttle. When the news reached King Darzin, decided to send his soldiers to finish El-ahrairah.

Question 2: Who is the Black Rabbit of Inle? What qualities define him?

Answer: Black Rabbit of Inle is the ghost servant of Lord Frith. He represents death. He has the power to destroy his enemies. He did nothing more than his assigned task. He is the protector and is ready to avenge a wrongful death of any Rabbit. He is clever and is not tricked by El- ahrairah. He ends up helping El- ahrairah and his people.

Question 3: Why do you think the Black Rabbit of Inle wins all the contests of El-ahrairah proposes to free his people from King Darzin’s trap?

Answer: Black Rabbit of Inle wins all the contests El-ahrairah proposes as El-ahrairah got too nervous and lost his wits in front of the Black Rabbit’s mighty and powerful spirits.

Question 4: Briefly discuss El-ahrairah’s ordeal with Black Rabbit of Inle.

Answer: El-ahrairah tries to make a deal with the Black Rabbit. He offers to give his own life in exchange for his people’s safety but the Black Rabbit refuses. Then El-ahrairah tries to trick the Black Rabbit into saving his people by way of games. But he loses each time as his spirits fail him. In return he has to surrender his tail, whiskers and ears. At last, El-ahrairah deliberately gets himself infected with a life-threatening disease so that he can trick the Black Rabbit into taking his life and saving his people. Unfortunately, this trick also fails.

Question 5: Why does the Black Rabbit finally decide to save El-ahraiah’s people?

Answer: At one-point Black Rabbit felt that in spite of losing the contests/games El-ahrairah is still not leaving the ground and continuously looking for another trick to convince Black Rabbit to save his people. This showed El-ahrairah’s warm heart and brave spirit which persuaded Black Rabbit and he finally decided to save El-ahrairah’s people.

Answer: El-ahrairah planned to visit the Black Rabbit of Inle and offered his life in return for saving his people. However, Black Rabbit returned his offer, however, offered El-ahrairah to stay and eat in his burrow as long as he wished, to which El-ahrairah refused politely and Black Rabbit invited him to play bob-stones.

(b) Explain in detail the entertainment planned.

Answer: Both Black Rabbit and El-ahrairah decided to play bob-stones on the condition that, Black Rabbit will agree to accept El-ahrairah’s life in return for his people’s safety if Black Rabbit loses. However, if Black Rabbit wins, El-ahrairah will have to give his tail and whiskers to Black Rabbit.

This showed that El-ahrairah’s has got a big warm heart and is a brave spirit who can go to any extent for the safety of his people.

(c) What was the outcome after the speaker made this statement?

Answer: The outcome was that, the Black Rabbit had saved El-ahrairah’s people.
