Flutters Of Thought Questions & Answers
Word Galaxy
- Light awhile – stop for a while
Question 1: What does the poet compare her thoughts to and why?
Answer: The speaker compares her thoughts to a moth that flits and flutters through her mind and is difficult to catch. She wishes that the moth would then rest somewhere and that would enable her to catch hold of the words that are wrapped around the moth and create beautiful poetry with those words. She thinks that if her thoughts were moths, they would be easier to catch.
Question 2: Why does she talk about cocoons? What will they keep safe? What will become of them?
Answer: Cocoons are woven to keep the larva safe till they transform into butterflies. The speaker says that she would collect the words carried by the moths and use them to weave cocoons that would preserve poetry and lyrics till the latter mature with time and can burst forth in all their beauty. The speaker uses complex metaphors to talk about thoughts, words and poetry.
Question 3: What do poems have that make them magical?
Answer: A painter uses brushes and colourful paints to create images – while a poem is a picture of words – that is, the pictures are created by words – for us to visualize the images whatever the poet wants to convey – the rhythm gives us the feeling of the movement – the meaning finally conveys what the poet wanted to tell us through his poetry.
