Question 1: Who was Pip? What do you know about his family? Where were they?

Answer: Pip was a boy whose real name was Philip Pirrip. His parents and his five brothers had passed away. He lived in a village with his sister Miss Joe Gargery who, though had brought him up, was a cruel person.

Question 2: How did Miss Havisham appear to Pip when he first met her?

Answer: Miss Havisham was dressed in a white sating wedding gown with a white veil on her white hair which was drawn over her face. She was wearing jewelry and a white pair of shoes. She was an old woman who was only skin and bones and her skin was very loose and wrinkled. She looked like a wax figure sitting in the chair.

Question 3: What more did Pip notice as he surveyed the room?

Answer: Pip surveyed the room minutely and it looked as though time had stopped long ago. Everything in the room was pale and decayed. The bridal dress which Miss Havisham was wearing gave the appearance of grave clothes and the long veil a shroud.

Answer: The room that Pip was escorted to one week later was also very dark with no ventilation. Everything was covered with dust. A few candles gave a faint light to the room. It was a huge hall with a long table arranged for a party.

Answer: Miss Havisham drew Pip’s attention to a place on the table with the thickest cobwebs and said that she would be laid out there on her demise. That day was her birthday. She behaved in an unpleasant way with all the guests.

Answer: When Pip pushed Miss Havisham around in a wheel chair, she told him to come every alternate day. They got to know each other and she was keen to know what Pip wanted to become.

Pip was expecting her to pay his schooling but she never paid him and only gave him some food.

Answer: Pip was conducted to the large gloomy room through dark passages with the help of a candle light.
