Answer: The room was easy and comfortable with a fire in the hearth. The carpet was faded and the furniture was very plain, for a good picture or two hung on the walls, books filled the recesses, chrysanthemums and Christmas roses bloomed in the windows and a pleasant atmosphere of home peace pervaded it.

Answer: The old shoes indicate that the March family was not financially strong. They also indicate the priority to the offsprings by their parents. Mrs. March shoes were completely worn out but she did not bother about that because she had to look after the needs of her daughters. She gave priority to her daughters’ requirements. Thereafter, the girls planned to give their mother a surprise on Christmas.

Answers: Mrs. March was a perfect mother. She worked hard but was never too busy to counsel daughters. She was a charity worker as well and was an ideal housekeeper and a loving mother. She was a role model for her daughters.

Answer: Mr. March was a philosopher and pastor. He was serving as a Union Chaplain in the American Civil War. He wrote a very inspirational letter advising his four daughters to live a worthy and optimistic life and to take care of their mother. We came to know about Mr. March when Meg says that it is splendid of their father to go as a chaplain when he was too old to be drafted and not strong enough for a soldier.

Answer: Mr. March’s letter was a cheerful and hopeful letter which was full of lively descriptions of camp life. It was a very inspirational letter advising his four daughters to live a worthy and optimistic life and to take care of their mother.

Answer: The girls planned to surprise their mother on Christmas by gifting her different things. Meg decided to present her a nice pair of gloves, Jo a pair of army shoes, Beth some handkerchiefs and Amy wanted to gift a bottle of cologne. They decided to put all their things on a table and bring her in and see her opening the bundles. They would pretend as if they were getting things for themselves and then surprise her with the beautiful presents.
