In the battle of Jhelum, King Puru continued to fight even when others had left the field and single-handedly, he killed at least a hundred Greek soldiers with his sword. All these qualities of Puru made Alexander respect him.

Even his soldiers fought better than Alexander’s soldiers. Alexander’s men were amazed to see the bravery of Puru and his soldiers.

Answer: I do feel that Puru was really proud of himself. He was an independent Indian king with high self-respect. He fought bravely in the battle of Jhelum and refused to bow before Alexander and be his vassal. He indeed had the right to think that he should be respected and treated as an equal and not as a vassal.
