Question1: Choose the appropriate option.

Answer: The message that this story gave us is that ‘A real hero is one who helps others to accomplish something.’

Answer: The young boy was athletic and hungry for success. For him, winning was everything and success was measured by such result.
Question 4: How did he win the first race?
Answer: The young boy dug deep and called on his determination, strength and power and won the race. He raced faster than the other two young boys and reached the winning line.

Answer: The young boy said this to the wise old man.

Answer: The young boy says so because he was to race with an elderly frail gentleman and a blind lady.

(a) Who is the speaker of these words?
Answer: The wise old man is the speaker of these words.
(b) Why does the speaker want the race to be held again?
Answer: The speaker (the wise old man) wanted the race to be held again, because he wanted to teach a lesson to the young boy.
(c) What changes did the speaker mention for the next race?
Answer: The wise old man wanted the young boy to finish the race together with other two competitors i.e., the elderly frail gentleman and the blind lady.
Question 7: What lesson do you think the wise man was trying to teach the boy?
Answer: The wise man was trying to teach the young boy that winning is not the only form of success. A real hero is one who helps others to accomplish something
Question 8: ‘The young boy felt proud and important.’ This statement has been repeated thrice in the story. Why?
Answer: The boy loves cheering by the crowd as he is hungry for success. He things that winning is the only way for success. By repeating this phrase, the writer is trying to highlight this thinking of the young boy.
Question 9: “…… and for this race the crowd cheered not for any winner.” What do these words mean?
Answer: These words mean that crowd was cheering the spirit of the race, which means that winning is not always important.

Answer: ‘It’ cheered for all three as they showed great spirit and completed the race together.
