Question 3: Why was the king’s courtier unhappy?
Answer: The king’s courtier was unhappy to see that Mulla Nasruddin had now earned lots of money by selling his crop. He was jealous and did not want Nasruddin alone to earn money.
Question 4: What did the courtier want?
Answer: The courtier at the king’s palace wanted to have half the portion of crops that Nasruddin grew that year on the king’s land. The king allowed his request thinking that the money from the crops would be useful for his large family.
Question 5: What did the king ask Nasruddin to do?
Answer: The king allowed the request made by his courtier and ordered Mulla Nasruddin to share half portion of his crops with the courtier.
Question 6: Do you think Nasruddin was happy to obey the king’s order? How do you know?
Answer: No, Nasruddin was not happy about sharing the crop with the courtier as he had worked so hard to grow. We know this because he thought of an intelligent way out. He asked the courtier to choose if he wanted the portion of the crop that grew above the ground or the one that grew below. The courtier chose to have the portion of the crop that grew above the ground. For the next crop, he grew carrots. Since, carrots grow below the ground, Nasruddin retained all the carrots and the courtier only got the carrot leaves since they grow above the ground.
