Question 1: In the first paragraph, the narrator tells you, “night meets morning face to face and the meeting was not happy.” What does he mean by this phrase? Why was the meeting ‘not happy’?
Answer: The narrator uses the above phrase to reflect that it was getting dawn and the world was about to enter in a new fresh morning.
The meeting was not happy as the narrator’s father had to go for his sleep instead of enjoying the chill air of fresh mornings due to his weary night shifts work.
Question 2: Why do you think father enjoyed his walk at day break during springtime?
Answer: The father enjoyed his walk at day break during springtime because that was the only chance he would get to feel the nature. He loved to see the charming birds and their chirps, fresh grasses and the exhilarating aura.
Question 3: How do you think did the children react to see the rabbit on the table?
Answer: The children were very excited to see the rabbit on the table. They expressed their excitement enquiring about the rabbit with their father. They simply loved it.
Question 4: Was mother happy to see the rabbit? Why/why not?
Answer: The mother was rather upset to see the rabbit. She was afraid that their company with the rabbit would end up in vain and it would die. From her past experiences, she believed that the rabbit would bring mourns, hue and cries one day.
Question 5: What bad experience of the past does mother remind the family of?
Answer: The mother reminds her family of various dreadful situations whenever they tried to keep a pet. She reminds the family that every time it brought tears and trouble to the family.
Question 6: Why did the rabbit not touch the milk offered by the family on the kitchen table?
Answer: The rabbit did not touch the milk offered by the family on the kitchen table as it was too young or perhaps it was afraid to be among humans being a wild creature.
Question 7: In your opinion, did the entire family love animals/pets. Give examples from the story to prove your point.
Answer: No doubt, the entire family loved pets. There are quite clear incidents that prove it.
- Every time, father could not resist any creature, whether wild or pet to take it to his house if he found it in trouble.
- Children would always yearn for pets. They did arrangements to comfort the pet.
- Mother too has great love for the pets. Each time it was painful for her to bear the tragic parting with the pets. She also wept for them.
