Question 1: In a school student exchange programme students from a school travel abroad to a partnering school. The purpose is to learn about the local culture and develop friendships. In this poem, students from two planets are on an exchange programme.
(a) Who is speaking in this poem?
Answer: The speaker of the poem is the alien of the other planet.
(b) Who does the speaker assume to be the readers?
Answer: The speaker assumes his readers to be one of the inhabitants of that planet.
Question 2: According to the speaker, the alien students ‘fell about’ when they first saw the student from Earth. What was the reason for their uncontrollable laughter? How do you feel about this laughter? Why?
Answer: The alien student laughed at the human from the Earth upon his discovery that he did not have claws, he had only two eyes, a single feeding system and some horrid furry stuff on his head.
I feel that they should not have laughed at him because it is wrong to disrespect our guests and make fun of them.
Question 3: The last stanza gives a lot of information about the alien children’s size and appearance. What do you learn about them?
Answer: From the last stanza of the poem, we get to know that the alien children are huge. Besides, they have wings and sharp horns too.
Question 4: Read the second stanza carefully. What are the alien student’s views about our mouth nose and hair?
Answer: The alien children think that humans are weird because they have a single feeding system to facilitate the intake of the food. Their nose or breathing tube is too small and their furry stuff on their heads look horrible to the aliens.
