Answer:

Question 3: What is the poem about?

Answer: The poem is about an earthquake and the disaster caused by it.

Question 4: What happened as the poet lay awake?

Answer: As the poet lay awake, his bed began to shake due to occurrence of an earthquake.

Question 5: How did the poet come to know about the earthquake?

Answer: The poet came to know about the earthquake when his bed began to shake.

Question 6: What confirmed the poet’s fear about the quake?

Answer: The poet’s fear about the quake was confirmed when he saw the fan trembling.

Question 7: What happened after the quake? Make a list.

Answer: After the quake, most of the buildings and houses collapsed. Houses, roads, parks and trees were destroyed. People were out of their comfortable homes. They were buried under the debris of their houses and some of them died.

Question 8: Explain the meaning of the following lines:

1. Kissing and talking to the ground.

Answer: This means that the town which stood still a few moments ago before the earthquake has now collapsed. Houses, roads, parks, trees, buildings etc. now turned into debris and lay on the ground.

2. Some of which have now become tombs.

Answer: After the earthquake, people were out of their comfortable homes. They were buried under the debris of their houses which have now become the burial grounds.
