Question 1: Write True or False for the following sentences:

Question 2: Complete the following sentences in your own words.

1. One day Muthu threw a packet instead of stones.
2. As always, Somu picked it up but this time he found that it was full of jewellery.
3. Unlike the other times, Muthu’s parents demanded the packet full of jewellery back from Somu.
4. Somu and a few others felt that the headman’s judgement could not be different; it had to be the same.
5. The headman told Muthu’s parents that since they had not asked Somu to return the stones their son had thrown at him, they could not ask for the packet either.

Answer: Muthu was a very naughty boy. He was thoroughly spoilt, his parents doted on him and let him do exactly as he pleased. Everyday Muthu did the craziest things and his parents made no effort to stop him.

Answer: This story teaches us that we should never trouble others just for our fun and enjoyment. We should act unselfishly and be empathetic towards our neighbours’ needs.

Answer: Subbu is the speaker of the above lines. He was talking to Muthu’s parents.

Answer: No, Muthu’s parents didn’t do anything about his request. They paid no attention to him.

2. “The headman is a very fair judge. He cannot give us a different verdict this time.”

(a) Who is the speaker of the above lines?

Answer: Somu is the speaker of the above lines.

(b) Why could the headman not give a different verdict?

Answer: The headman couldn’t give a different verdict this time as what he said earlier still holds true – that this is the act of a mad boy and must be ignored.
