He said that though the flow of water was heavy and some of their boats were damaged, it was their duty to save their brothers and sisters who were stranded. They were not deterred by the effort which was quite risky. Ramu was only one of the many fishermen who dared to help his fellow citizens.

People are being greeted by crocodiles, snakes and other reptiles when they enter their homes. However, the festival of Onam made people return to normal life as the rains did not really dampen their spirits. With over a million people displaced due to the floods have celebrated Onam at relief camps. At a relief camp in Alappuzha, women cheerfully danced to celebrate the festival. One of the volunteers said that nothing was lost and everything would be regained. That was the spirit that prevailed strongly in the aftermath of the floods.
