Question 1: What is the first stanza of the poem about?
Answer: The first stanza of the poem talks about India’s forests which are rich in diversity. They have animals such as monkeys, bears, tigers, lions, elephants, rhinoceros, boar etc. Yet even in these forests some of the endangered animals are hardly to be found.
Question 2: What does the poet write about the Bengal florican?
Answer: The poet says the Bengal florican is a black and white bird that is speckled with brown and is beautiful to the sight. It flourishes and survives only in dry grasslands.

Answer: The poet describes the little red panda by saying that it lives in trees, feeds on leaves and swings in the breeze. It has a long furry tail that keeps it warm during the cold of dark winter storm.

Answer: All the animals mentioned in the poem have declined in numbers and have become endangered due to human activities. This is what is common to all of them.

Answer: Human beings have destroyed animal habitats and food sources in the name of growth and success. Pollution and poaching for animal skin are some of the ways in which humans are responsible for endangering wildlife.
