Question 5: When and where was Dr Bhabha born?

Answer: Dr Bhabha was born in Bombay on 30th October, 1909 in a Parsi family.

Question 6: How and where did Dr Bhabha complete his education?

Answer: Dr Bhabha’s primary education took place in Bombay. After studying at the Cathedral School, Elphinstone College and the Royal Institute of Science in Bombay, his parents sent him to Cambridge, England for higher studies. Dr Bhabha got his Ph.D. degree from Cambridge University.

Answer: In 1941, Dr Bhabha was elected fellow of the Royal Society, London.
In 1944, when he wrote to Sir Sorab Saklatwala, Chairman of the Chairman of the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust that was the first step which Dr Bhabha took in the establishment of the Tata Institute of Fundamental research and the Atomic Energy Commission.
In 1948, the Atomic Energy Commission was founded and Dr Bhabha was appointed as the Chairman of the Commission.
In 1952, the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research was inaugurated.
In 1954, Dr Bhabha got ‘Padma Bhushan’ and also established the Atomic Energy Centre.
In 1963, the Tarapur Nuclear Plant was set up with his efforts.

Answer: Dr Bhabha had established two great research institutions namely theTata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) and the Atomic Energy Establishment at Trombay which, after his death was renamed as the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC).

Answer: Dr Bhabha was a firm believer that the progress and advancement of a country with big industries and progress in the field of science and technology will need more power. Keeping this in mind, the process of establishing many nuclear power plants began. In Rajasthan, Rana Pratap Sagar and in South, Kalpakkam Nuclear Power Plant were established. Later on, in Uttar Pradesh, Narora Nuclear Power Plant was established.
Dr Bhabha’s vision and hard-work brought India at par with other countries of the world having nuclear power programmes.
