Question 1: Who was Sher Singh Bahadur?

Answer: Sher Singh Bahadur was a famous, brave hunter, who lived in Laldwani village, grazing his animals, cultivating his bit of land. He also acted as a guide for the expeditions in the jungle. The title ‘Bahadur’ was added to his name like a medal because of his bravery.

Question 2: Where did he get the big scar from?

Answer: While pulling his comrade away from a tiger, Sher Singh Bahadur got a big scar all along his skull, back and shoulder. The tiger had torn his flesh with its claws.

Answer: There were no men in the village because all the men had gone as beaters with the hunting expedition.

Answer: All the children had died of cholera and influenza.

Question 6: How did Sher Singh carry his brother?

Answer: Sher Singh carried his brother on his back in a sling which he made from his mother’s sari.

Answer: On a cliff, above the river-bed Sher Singh stopped to take some rest. While doing so, below him, he encountered a herd of elephants passing by both his sides. A great, old elephant brought its trunk near him. Sher Singh got scared and prayed repeatedly. Luckily, the elephant went away without harming the boys.

His father was not available and his mother could also not go along with him to the hospital as she had to stay behind to mind the cattle and work on the land without which they would all starve. So, Sher Singh carried Kunwar on his back in a sling made from his mother’s sari. He had to cover 80 km of muddy track through a dense jungle criss-crossed with streams and infested with tigers, bears and tuskers.

Answer: Sher Singh was a responsible child. He was there with his mother and brother when they needed him the most. He was very sensitive and could feel the pain of his little brother. He was a loving brother so, he decided to take Kunwar to the hospital at Kalaghat. He was quite brave. He carried Kunwar on his back in a sling made from his mother’s sari and covered 80 km of muddy track through a dense jungle criss-crossed with streams and infested with tigers, bears and tuskers. He was God-fearing also. When he encountered a herd of elephants, he was constantly praying to get out of this difficult situation.
