Answer: Raicharan was given his master’s little son to look after.

Question 2: How did Raicharan get a complete hold over the child?

Answer: Raicharan gave all his love and attention to the little child. He would spend all his time with the child. Thus, he got a complete hold over him.

Question 3: How did Raicharan feel when the child learnt to toddle and say little words?

Answer: It was for Raicharan a new wonder. His joy then knew no bounds. He would go out and tell the whole world of it.

Question 4: Where was Anukul transferred? What did he do on the way?

Answer: Anukul was transferred to a city on the banks of the river Damodar. On his way through Kolkata, he bought his son a little go-cart.

Question 5: Where did Raicharan take the baby one afternoon and why?

Answer: Raicharan took him to the fields on the bank of the river. It was fine weather and the baby wanted to be taken outside. He climbed into his go-cart and Raicharan pushed it to the side of the open fields.

Answer: Raicharan loved his little master heart and soul. He gave him all his attention. He would spend all the time with him. All his actions were designed to keep the child happy. He would roll him up in his arms. He would talk to him in baby language. He would put his face close to the baby’s face and draw it away with a smile. All this shows that Raicharan loved his little master very much.

Answer: The child was surely drowned in the river. It has been suggested in the story quite clearly. As soon as Raicharan was gone for the flowers, the child got down from the cart and ran towards the river. On the way, he picked up a stick. He leaned over the bank of the river, pretending to fish. The next thing that could have happened was that the child lost his balance and fell into the river. Since no one was looking that way, the child was drowned and was lost forever.
