Answer: The phrases that describe Rani the best are:

This is because she tricked the king and by the end of thirty days. All his storehouses were empty.
(b) A quick-witted girl
When the Raja told her to ask for a reward, she demanded nothing but a grain of rice that kept on doubling for 30 days.
(c) A kind child
This is because she distributed rice among starving people. Finally, when Raja was left with no grain of rice, she offered a basket of rice to Raja with his assurance that he would keep only as much rice as he needed.

This is because she calculated the amount of grain she would receive with a rough estimate.
Question 4: Why do you think Rani caught the falling rice in her skirt?
Answer: I think Rani caught the falling rice in her skirt as it was the time of famine in the country and people were left with no grain of rice to eat. Those were hard times, she must have thought that those grains of rice should not be wasted.
Question 5: The Raja feels that he is a just Raja. Do you agree with this? Justify.
Answer: No, I don’t agree with this. The Raja was not just. He should not store and keep all the grain in his royal storehouse while the people of his country go hungry. He should distribute them to the needy and keep only as much as required by him. After all, the grains that Raja stored belonged to the people and those grains were the fruits of their labour.

Answer: Raja said these words to the girl.
(b) What was the ‘reward’ being talked about?
Answer: ‘Reward’ for the honesty of the girl was being talked about.

Answer: The speaker said this because the girl returned the rice grains falling from the basket.
(d) Was the speaker correct when he said this?
Answer: No, the speaker was not correct when he said this. This is because the grain belonged to the poor people.
