Answer: Sheru was killed by the poachers. As long as he was alive, he was a terror in the forest. But the poachers shot him down.

Answer: The message that the poet conveys through this poem is that man has been cutting the trees for his greed. The poor wild animals have nowhere to live so, they live in the danger of poachers.
