The Letter Questions & Answers

- Anxious – wanting very much to do something; worried
- Blot – a stain or spot; blotting paper is soft and soaks up ink
Question 1: Who is writing a letter to whom?
Answer: The poet is writing a letter to her mother.
Question 2: How does the writer end the letter?
Answer: The writer ends the letter with ten kisses for her mother.
Question 3: What do you think was written in the letter?
Answer: The writer must have written that she misses her mother, loves her a lot, and is waiting anxiously for her return.
Question 4: Read this line and then answer the questions:
1. It is to the person/care for the most.
(a) What does it refer to?
Answer: It refers to the letter.
(b) Which person is cared for the most?
Answer: The writer’s mother is cared for the most.
(c) What does the speaker also remember?
Answer: The speaker also remembers the date, address, to be neat, to blot up the ink, the farewell kisses, the envelope, to put the stamp.
2. Till lastly come kisses.
(a) How many kisses?
Answer: Ten.
(b) How are these put on the letter?
Answer: These are put on the letter as crosses.
(c) Why do the speaker say lastly?
Answer: The speaker says – because the kisses are a sort of farewell, as a closure for the letter.
Question 5: Write a few pairs of rhyming words from the poem.
Answer: Post-most, sheet-neat, ink-pink, pen-ten, on-gone.
