Question 1: Where all were the rats running around?
Answer: The rats were running around in the houses of the people of Hamelin.
Question 2: What did the Pied Piper want in exchange for getting rid of the rats?
Answer: In exchange for getting rid of the rats, the Pied Piper wanted a large sum of money from the Mayor.
Question 3: Why was the Pied Piper angry?
Answer: The Mayor was not a man of his word and he refused to give the Pied Piper the sum of money he had promised. So, the Pied Piper was angry with him.
Question 4: Explain ‘hue and cry’.
Answer: ‘Hue and cry’ means a loud cry of alarm or anger.

Answer: The Pied Piper walked through all the streets of Hamelin and played a tune on his pipe and as he walked past the houses, all the rats left the houses, bakeries, mills and shops and followed the Pied Piper down the main street, out of the town. That is how the Pied Piper got rid of the rats.
