This story is a folk tale from Korea. The four characters in the story are the boy, the grandmother, the tiger and the thief. The events in the story take place in and around a village at the edge of a forest. Once, a tiger was hungry and looking for food. Finding nothing in the forest, he entered the village. He slipped in through the gate of a house and crouched outside the window. Inside, a grandmother gave a dried persimmon to her grandson and he stopped crying. The tiger grew afraid of the persimmon. A thief entered the house to steal a cow. He grabbed the tiger’s tail thinking that it was the cow’s tail. The terrified tiger ran without looking back, thinking that the persimmon had grabbed its tail. The frightened thief did not let go of the tail, thinking that the tiger would run around and eat him.
