Question 1: Why did the California not come to help the passengers on the Titanic?
Answer: The California did not come to help the passengers on the Titanic because the radio was turned off and the radio operator was asleep.
Question 2: Captain Smith and his crew tried to save the passengers. Describe three things they did.
Answer: Captain Smith and his crew tried the following three things:
- They sent messages asking for help on the radio.
- They woke up all the passengers.
- They lowered life-boats with people on them into the sea.

Answer: The Captain and the crew were not supposed to leave the ship till everybody left. This was the rule that was to be followed.

Answer: The word ‘titanic’ means huge. This ship was very big with many staircases, rooms, dancing halls, swimming pools and all the luxuries that one could think of. That is why the ship was called ‘Titanic’.
