Answer: The poem is about a child who imagines a race between two raindrops.
Question 2: Why did the poet assume that the two raindrops were racing against each other?
Answer: The poet assumed that the two raindrops were racing against each other because the two raindrops were stuck on the window-pane at the same height and were about to trickle down.

Answer: The sun would have come out even if James didn’t win the race because after rain, the cloud disappears and the sun shines bright.
Question 9: How would you describe John and James? Quote examples from the poem to support your answer.
Answer: John is steady. His steadiness appeals to the child and that is the reason the child wants him to win. For example – “John is waiting to begin.”
On the other hand, James started the race early and got easily distracted by the fly. For example – “James was talking to a fly.”
