- After graduating, Dr Kalam joined the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) as a scientist.
- In 1969, Dr Kalam joined the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). He was the project director of India’s first indigenous satellite launch vehicle.
- In 1992, Dr Kalam was appointed as the scientific advisor in the defence ministry. He later also served as the principal scientific advisor to the Government of India.
